Like pretty much everybody else in the science writing community, I’m really excited to attend Science Online next week. It’s an “un-conference” that brings together people who are passionate about science and communication- I went last year and learned so much that I can’t wait to go back. Last year, I felt as though I was just dipping my toes into this world of science journalism and the conference helped convince me that I really do want to grow my career in science journalism. This year, I’m thrilled to be swimming in such a exciting sea of people.

To share my enthusiasm for the event, I decided to practice the cartography skills I’ve been working on for the past year and make a map for the conference. People are coming together in North Carolina from so many places, with such different career backgrounds, that a map seemed like the right way to show the diverse crowd attending. There’s a lot of different ways to tell stories about this conference, but here’s my spatial one:

See a larger version of the map here. I look forward to meeting everyone on this map in Raleigh next week :)
